Slipknot – Joey Jordison Drum cam – Disasterpiece (Live at London 2002)

Joey Jordison, co-founding member of Slipknot and one of the most celebrated drummers of his generation, has died at 46 years old.

A representative for Jordison’s family tells Rolling Stone, the drummer passed in his sleep on Monday. They did not specify a cause of death.

“Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow,” reads a statement from his family. “To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart, and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans, and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time.”

The family intends to hold a private funeral service.

This is a developing story.

A co-writer on much of Slipknot’s most beloved material, Jordison abruptly left the band in 2013 for “personal reasons” relating to his health.

Jordison suffered from acute transverse myelitis, a neurological disorder characterized by inflammation in the spinal cord. Jordison said his symptoms went untreated for years and eventually robbed him of his ability to play drums.

Slowly, through physical therapy Jordison gained back his strength and was eventually able to tour again as a drummer with other projects. In 2018, he revealed he was working on a book.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021. He was 46,” the statement reads. “Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time. The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes.”

He was a master on the drums, a real inspiration and a very humble person.. this is a big lost for the metal world… RIP Joey Jordison.
