Human Sized Bat Have Been Found In The Philippines

They are described as “human sized bat” and like to wrap huge black wings tightly around themselves and hung them on the rafters, giving them an obvious vampire-like appearance.

Although these creepy creatures are not uncommon in their home country, the Philippines, this has not stopped the image from spreading on social media.

The photo was posted to Twitter by @AlexJoestar622 who wrote: “Remember when I told y’all about the Philippines having human-sized bats?

“Yeah, this was what I was talking about.”

The giant golden-crowned flying fox is one of the largest bat species in the world.

While fans of the creature are fond of emphasising its 1.7 metre wingspan, the bat’s body is only about 30cm long.

@AlexJoestar622’s image is genuine – it’s just that perspective is deceptive.

Are There Human Sized Bats

Yes, there are human sized bats. The picture has garnered a whopping 2.6 lakh ‘likes’ and hundreds of stunned comments on Twitter. While many branded it terrifying, others raised doubts about the picture’s authenticity.

The picture, however, is not actually fake.

According to fact-checking website Snopes, the photograph truly depicts an animal that exists in the real world.

Are Human Sized Bats Real

There’s no doubt the human sized bats are real, though. The Reddit user even posted another photo from a different angle of the bat yawning as it was woken up from its daytime slumber; flying foxes are typically nocturnal or crepuscular.

The sleepy giant human sized bat may actually be a large fox (Pteropus vampyrus), a similarly impressive megabat characterised by its long, pointed ears and fox-like face and head. In the Philippines, nearly all flying foxes are threatened species due to the loss of habitat and being hunted as a source of human food.
